Sharon Taylor (day job

Hanging Baskets Workshop
Community Garden Boxes
Some of the members of the South Alive Choir getng
ready for a recent concert.
Weve established our community garden boxes as
a place to gather and meet others while growing
food for the community and theyre looking
fantastc with vegetables, herbs, strawberries and
rhubarb all making a showing.
Weve got 18 boxes in total and were aiming to have a mix
of boxes adopted by groups in the community and other
South Alive boxes which are for everybody/anybody to
plant and tend, with no
individual ownership. Ranui
and Kew Kindergartens
and the St Andrews Young
Achievers Group have all
adopted and planted boxes.
If you are a group whether
young or old, cultural,
sportng, educaton or
something else! wed love
to have you be part of the
garden. Give us a call.
Learn how to plant and maintain a hanging basket at a free workshop
Its just about tme for South Alive to plant a new set of hanging baskets for Elles
Road and this tme we thought wed go for lots of colour and perhaps some side
plantng as well. We also thought there might be others whod like to learn how to
plant their own baskets. So we approached Diacks Nurseries whove very kindly
agreed to do a free workshop. There are heaps of ways you can partcipate you
could just come and observe, and possibly help plant the South Alive baskets, or you
could bring a basket with you and plant your own. Diacks will bring a trailer-load of
dirt, as well as baskets and plants for those who want to buy these on the day.
The workshop will be in the South Alive Park at the back of the shopping mall
(corner Grace and Ness Streets) at 2pm on Saturday 17 August. All welcome.
Really! Any project that will be benefcial and make
your neighbourhood more fun, beautful or easier
to live in is likely to qualify - for example, it could be
an arts or craf project, or something that develops
skills in the community, or perhaps a project
which upgrades or improves the neighbourhood.
Individuals or groups are eligible.
