The Eye 21.3.13
The South Alive Housing Group has been
working with the Council to identfy overgrown
vacant sectons. At our public meetng a year
ago residents identfed these as having a very
negatve impact on their sense of pride in South
Invercargill so its been great to see Council
taking such a strong and dedicated approach
to fxing the situaton. So far, 116 sectons
have been identfed. Of these, 72 have been
cleaned up by the owners, 27 are under acton
by the Council and the remaining are in process.
The Council also say they are determined to
make sure these vacant sectons stay tdy so
theyll keep on the case. South Alive wants to
congratulate, and thank the Council for all the
great work it is doing.
If you have any spare plants or cutngs, wed love to
have them! Our Beautfcaton Acton Group has plans
to plant lots of fowers - with Elles Road the frst target
(with permission from landowners), followed by other
roads and streets with high traffic volumes. Your plants
can be dropped into the South Alive office at the mall
(see opening hours in the Contact Details) or if you need
us to collect them, please call Gayle on 216 4348.

Dog Park Gets the Green Light
It involves a lot of behind the scenes technical work and studies though, so there wont be
much to see for a while. But we will be doing a lot more community and business consultaton
and, towards the end of the six months needed for this phase, youll be able
to see a specifc design plan. We look forward to talking with you!
Invercargills frst dog park has been given the go-ahead and will be
situated on Elles Road in South Invercargill. The approval is subject
to the Council approving the actual layout plan, including the fencing
style and setback from the road. The South Alive Dog Park Acton
Group will now work with the Council to come up with the fnal plan
We think this will probably take untl late May with constructon
startng afer July, in the next fnancial year.
