95 streets and 8 parks have already been
adopted in our Zero Rubbish project,
which leaves 63 streets stll needing
someone/group to take them under their
wing. All sorts of groups and individuals
are involved - including 3 kindergartens
(Kew, Rockdale Park and Newfeld), 7
classes at Aurora College, Southland Girls
High School, Georgetown Scouts, lots of
families with young children, groups of
neighbours that have got together just
for this project, local businesses such as
Westpac and many individuals ranging
from juniors to seniors. What a fantastc
effort, and South Alive is really thrilled
with the community response. Lots
of people have also told us how much
cleaner things are. But there are stll
those 63 streets waitng for adopton so
if you havent already, why not volunteer
yourself or get together with a few
neighbours or friends. Weve listed the
available streets below and would love
to hear from you if you can adopt any
of them see our contact details in this
newsleter. You can also keep updated by
looking at the full map in the window of
the South Alive office in the mall.
From our earlier newsleters youll know that, in response to what youve told us you
want, South Alive is planning to build a community park. Our plan provides space for
informal gathering where its possible to do a bit of gardening or pick vegies for
dinner, where youth can play some basketball and where theres ofen music and
other performances and market days. And we just got off to a fying start with the
very generous offer from Southroads to do a lot of the ground preparaton we need.
Southroads has agreed to excavate and refll to form the surfaces that are required
under the garden boxes, basket ball court and café area and to form the paths.
Grant Isaacs, Southland Regional Manager of Southroads, said work would start in
about three weeks. We are really pleased to be able to help such a great community
initatve he said.
So, look out for progress on the park, and well give you another update in the

Colour comes to Elles Road
The fruit of our labour
When we asked what you wanted to
improve in the South City shopping area,
more colour and vibrancy was high on
the list. We thought a great way to do
that would be to have hanging fowering
baskets. So we spoke to the landlord of the
mall and he agreed to clean and repaint
the iron work along Elles Road (thanks
Contel Holdings!). With that done, we will
hang the baskets in the next week or so
and install an automatc watering system.
The baskets should fower through untl
autumn, and will then be replanted
probably with a bright mix of colours.
The Fruit and Nut Tree Acton group is proud to announce that one of the fruit trees
they planted in August last year has borne [a] fruit - one very large apple! The group
intends to plant many more trees this year and we are all looking forward to a large
community harvest in the future.
