Nine years ago Alan King decided
after 40 years of being a display
artist he would branch out on his
own. From this decision, Framed

Daughter Alana joined Alan after
the business had been operating
for two and a half years. Alana

From the humble beginnings of a 16 year old
watch-maker apprentice, to owning McLeay
Jewellers, Trevor McLeay has come a long
way, and has much to be proud of. Working
with son, Glenn, who started with Trevor 25
years ago, their fine jewellery skills have made

Trevor has been in the jewellery business for 50
years, working for and owning three jewellery
stores which he eventually merged into one.
Seven years ago, Glenn attended a course in America to learn the intricate details
of a computer programme for designing and creating jewellery, and from this he
has gained a reputation for his beautiful jewellery. Trevor and Glenn now have four
computerised engraving machines and engrave anything from switchboards to
watches for people all over New Zealand.
"Everything that's engraveable, we try to do," Glenn says.
Trevor and Glenn sell a range of leading brands such as Seiko and Swarovski and
know that everything they sell and create will please the customers.
"We sell pleasure to the people that buy jewellery," Trevor says.
Along with providing great service, Trevor and Glenn have the ability to import
diamonds specifically to a customers requirements, guaranteeing great service
and end product.

involved in the local community," Glenn says.

With Ernie heading the kitchen and Fiona
managing the front of house, both bring
their international skills to the table.
Ernie and Fiona first met in Invercargill and
travelled all over the world together. They worked in Australia at establishments
including the Sheraton in the Queensland Gold Coast.
Returning to New Zealand in 2001, the opened Mayfly Cafe & Bar in Lumsden,
which they operated for 7 years.
In 2009, looking for a new challenge, they purchased a restaurant space
in Invercargill. 'Duo Restaurant' was born, and was given a complete new
refurbishment with a sleek and contemporary design. It became a winning
Invercargill success story.
Ernie and Fiona's professional relationship is also one to be admired. Each having
their own area of expertise, they are able to work together in harmony making
decisions together and bouncing ideas off each other.
Even when it comes to interior design for Duo Restaurant, Ernie and Fiona are on
the same page.
''I chose some colours and Ernie said that's exactly what I was
thinking,'' Fiona says.
So with such a good working relationship, it's no wonder that
Duo Restaurant is a successful business.
